Get Involved

Being involved in the church is essential for spiritual growth.  It is where we are taught, counseled, reproved and encouraged to grow closer to Christ.  It is where we practice Christ’s command to love one another.  If you have been sitting under the teaching of LBC and are looking for a way to apply what you have learned, getting involved in the life of the church is a great first step.  Here are some ways to do it:

Attend Fundamentals of the Faith. Fundamentals of the Faith (FOF) is a class offered on Sundays that teaches the foundational truths of Christianity in an accessible way.  If you are interested in becoming involved in the life of the church it is important to first understand what that life is based on and around.  It is good for both Christians and non-Christians alike, and is a great first step to getting involved int he church.

Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. This may seem like a trite Sunday-School answer, but it really is the key to the life of the church.  You can not truly participate in the life of the church unless you are joined to the source of that life, Jesus Christ.  We have fellowship with one another because we first have fellowship with Christ.  If you are not sure what your relationship with Jesus Christ is, we would be more than happy to answer any questions you have.  You can talk to any of our leaders or members at our Sunday worship services or one of the affinity group’s mid-week Bible studies.  If you know a Christian they will be more than happy to answer any questions as well.

Join your affinity group. If you are feeling a bit lost on Sundays,  you can find more personal interaction, discipleship, accountability, and serving opportunities in our affinity groups.   These groups are where we have smaller Bible studies and fellowship activities. You don’t need to do anything special to get involved with your affinity group, just go to the mid-week Bible studies and participate with the others that are there.

Join a small group. Small groups are groups of 4-7 people from the same affinity group that meet with one of the leaders for accountability, prayer and to go over the sermons that are taught on Sundays and at the mid-week studies.  The goal of these groups is to apply what we are learning in the Bible.  There are periodically sign-ups for these groups, so listen for them in the announcements and sign-up..

Join a flock. Flock are smaller gatherings of LBC members and attenders from all affinity groups.  They meet in homes throughout the San Diego area to discuss the latest sermon and to fellowship.  Each flock does things a little differently, but all are a great way to get to know other believers at LBC.  To join, just check out the flocks page and talk to one of the leaders.

Become a member. If you have attended Lighthouse for any length of time you probably know that we stress church membership.  It isn’t that we are trying to be exclusive, but we want to formally recognize those who want to submit to the leadership of the elders and partner with us in our M.V.P.  To be a member you have to be a Christian, be baptized and be willing to participate in the life and ministry of the church as much as you are able.  There are periodically membership classes so listen for them in the announcements and sign-up.

Participate in ministry. Ministry boils down to service; when you minister you are serving others.  This is how we practically work out the second part of the passion statement, to love people.   This is where we use the gifts God has given us to build the church.  Hopefully you are finding ways to serve others on your own, but if you are not sure where to start or would like to partner with other Christians joining one of LBC’s ministries is a great venue for service.  Keep in mind that many of the ministries at LBC require membership.  You can read more about our ministries on The Beacon.
