LBC Banquet

The annual all-church banquet will be on Sunday, May 22, at 4:45pm. This year, the banquet will be at the church. The cost for tickets is only $35/adult (children 0-12 are free)! This is a wonderful time to reflect on the Lord’s kindness this past year to the church. Signups will continue with Cesar Vigil-Ruiz!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Prayer and Response Slips. If you have any prayer or counseling needs that you would like to communicate, you can use the back of the small prayer and response slip which is found in your worship bulletin. Be sure to write legibly and give the slip to one of our ushers on your way out of the service.

New Visitors Orientation. If you are here at LBC for the first time today, we want to welcome you and thank you for visiting today! We are glad that you are here with us as we worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Immediately following the service, there will be a brief, informative orientation time on your behalf in Room 101. There you will also receive a small gift for visiting with us today. Please join us for that time!

Sunday Morning Prayer. Looking for a way to love others? There is a group that meets for prayer every Sunday morning at 8:00am in Room 107B. Come out to morning prayer and pray for your fellow members of LBC! For more information, please contact Joshua Lee (joshuaglee@gmail.com). Also, each Sunday at 8:45am, the sanctuary will be open and the church’s prayer requests will be projected on the walls so that you can come and pray for our various needs. Please take advantage of this time to pray for one another!

Sunday Morning D’lights. Each Sunday morning, from 8:15-8:50am, coffee and refreshments are served in the foyer. Come early and enjoy some time for fellowship before Sunday service.

Sunday School. Our Sunday School classes will continue today after service. These classes are provided so that you can be equipped to better minister and grow in faith. Please talk to any of the elders if you have questions about our Sunday School classes. The classes being offered are:

Fundamentals of the Faith (Instructors: Min Kim and Steve Preslar; Room 107): “Fundamentals of the Faith” is a class for anyone who wishes to be more grounded in the basics of Christian doctrine. All are welcome to learn more about what the Bible says on topics such as God, salvation, church, and prayer. Please remember that FOF 1 is a required class for members of LBC. Also, the cost of the FOF booklet is $8. Contact Min Kim or Steve Preslar for more information (mckim_3@yahoo.com; s_preslar@yahoo.com).

The Peacemaker (Instructors: Peter Lim, Mike Chon, and Stephen Rodgers; Main Sanctuary): This class will walk through The Peacemaker, by Ken Sande, and will cover the basic biblical principles of conflict resolution. This is absolutely one of the most practical themes in Scripture given our propensity to quarrel and fight with one another. It will be a challenging theme loaded with good practical application. GraceLife Fellowship (Instructor: Patrick Cho; Room 104): GraceLife is our family ministry and is geared towards encouraging growth in our married couples and parents. We will be taking a hiatus from our study in Mark in order to walk through Peacemaking for Families, by Ken Sande. Each week, we will continue to foster spiritual conversations in the home with take home questions for daily discussion. Contact Pastor Patrick for more details (pastorpatrick@gmail.com).

The Beacon. The Beacon online newsletter is constantly being updated with new articles, ministry updates, and weekly links! Plus, all the old Beacon and “Shine the Light!” blog articles have been incorporated into the new Beacon! Be sure to check out the new Beacon this week (www.lighthousebc.com/beacon). If you are a member and would like to help serve on the Beacon team, please contact Stephen Rodgers for more information.

Parking. We would like to reserve the parking spots closest to the church building for families with small children. This is true not only for Sundays but for any LBC events involving our families. Please minister to them by refraining from parking in these spots on Sundays. If you are unsure about where to park, please talk to one of our parking attendants for assistance.

Lost and Found. Have you lost anything at the church? Did you know we have a lost and found? Contact one of our greeters if you have a lost item. Hopefully they can help you find it! Unclaimed lost and found items will be donated or discarded periodically so check today!

Babysitting Ministry. As part of our Care Ministry, we provide complimentary babysitting for our families each month. This service is currently available only for church members. If you need a babysitter or would like more details, please talk to or email Stephanie McAdams (stephanie@mcdoulos.net).

Flocks. Once a month, our regional flocks meet in different homes around the community. This is a great way to get to know others in the church, to reflect on Sunday messages, and to enjoy a good time of fellowship. The next flocks meetings will meet this week, April 27-30. Homework sheets are available in the foyer or online so that you can participate in this discussion time (www.lighthousebc.com/aboutus/flocks). UPCOMING EVENTS:

Women’s Ministry Seminar. On Saturday, April 30, we will be having our next women’s ministry seminar at the church, from 9:00am-12:30pm. There is no cost to attend, but those interested in coming should RSVP with Christine Cho. Breakfast will be served! For more information, please contact Christine Cho (christinescho@gmail.com).

Men’s Breakfast. On Saturday, May 7, at 7:00am, we will be having our next men’s breakfast fellowship at the church. Come out as we discuss what it means to be a man of God and enjoy a time of prayer together. Bring a breakfast item to share. Coffee and juice will be provided.

TMS Graduation. On Sunday, May 15, The Master’s Seminary will be having its graduation ceremony. This is a special commencement because Pastor J. R. Cuevas, our former youth pastor now at LBC San Jose, will be graduating. The ceremony begins at 6:00pm at Grace Community Church and there will be a reception afterwards. If you are interested in going up to support Pastor J. R., please RSVP with Ryan Short.

AFFINITY GROUPS:

Midweek Bible Studies. All of our regular mid-week fellowships will be taking a break this week due to flocks. This includes Kids’ Club, Youth Ministry, College Life, and Single Life. For more information about flocks, you can visit the church website. If you are interested in joining a flock but do not know which one to attend, please talk to Peter Lim.

Lumos Youth Ministry. On Sunday mornings, the youth meet in Room 101 during the Sunday School hour. Please contact Roger Alcaraz for questions about Lumos youth group or to arrange rides to youth events (rogeralcaraz@gmail.com).

College and Single Life. Visit the church website for more information about our college and singles affinity groups, and for more information about upcoming events.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES:

Children’s Sunday School. Because of the special Resurrection Sunday service, children will not be dismissed for classes during this morning’s worship service. Children’s Sunday School will be meeting, however, during the Sunday School hour. As always, nursery care will be available for both services.

Sonlight Elementary Ministry. If you are a parent of a Sonlight child (K-5), please see Abram Kim for your parent resource packet for the year. This will be a resource for you to walk through this year’s curriculum together with us. The theme for the year is: “In the Beginning…Jesus.” If you have any questions about Sonlight please contact Abram Kim (abram.kim@gmail.com).

Mommy and Me. If you are a LBC attendee and a mom of a 0-4 year old and are interested in participating in Mommy and Me with your child, please contact Jane Kim (janeminkim@gmail.com). Mommy and Me meets on Thursdays at 9:45am in Room 107. The cost for registration is $25/family.

Lighthouse Kids’ Club. Kids’ Club will not be meeting this Wednesday due to flocks. For more information about Kids’ Club, please contact Josh Liu (liu.joshuac@gmail.com).

Children’s Staff. The Sonlight elementary ministry is looking for about 5-6 additional staff members to help with the weekly ministry to the kids. If you are a member at LBC and would like to serve, please contact Abram Kim or Mike Chon for more information.

Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be from June 20-24 this year, from 9:00am-5:00pm each day. The theme for this year is “God Always Wins!” Please mark your calendars! You can talk to Josh Liu or Abram Kim for more details or for registration.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES:

Convalescent Home Ministry. There is a group that visits a convalescent home in the Hillcrest area on Tuesdays to minister to the elderly. Please contact Teddy Yu for more details or if you would like to get involved (yu.teddy@gmail.com).

Homeless Ministry. There is a great ministry opportunity available to you every other Sunday! Twice a month, a group goes out to Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church to help feed the homeless and needy. The ministry generally runs from 3:00-6:00pm; the first half is spent preparing the food and the second half is spent serving food and cleaning the kitchen. Contact Joyce Kang for more information on how to get involved with this ministry (joycekang84@gmail.com).

Cleaning Ministry. The cleaning ministry is currently looking for more servants to help tidy up the church on the weekends. This is an invaluable ministry to the church. Talk to Andy Shin if you are interested in joining the crew.

Argentina Missions Trip. This year’s Argentina Missions trip is tentatively scheduled for July 6-21. Each year we go to Tucuman, to work alongside Iglesia Biblica Misionera (Missionary Bible Church) for a weeklong evangelistic campaign. We will also be providing biblical training and teaching for the church in general and specialized meetings. Whether or not you will be going to Argentina this summer, please prayerfully consider how you can help support the work we are doing down there.

Czech Missions Trip. The dates for this year’s Czech missions trip are June 26 to July 16. We will be teaming up once again with Meinolf Mellwig and the church in Ostrava to conduct a weeklong English camp and to share the gospel with the Czech people. This year, Lighthouse San Jose will be coordinating this trip.

Sister Connection. Signups for Sister Connection will be taken for the month of May until the end of the school year. College Life sisters will either be paired up with a Single Life or Grace Life sister. If you would like to participate, please email sisterconnection@gmail.com or you can sign up after church or during affinity groups with Christine Cho/Mabel Tse (Grace Life), Andrea Lem/Jane Liou (singles) or Grace Lee/Deborah Wong (collegians). The last day to sign up is May 1!

PRAYER REQUESTS

- Please pray for our brothers Erick Min and Alex Lim, who are currently deployed in Afghanistan. Pray for their safety and spiritual growth. Pray also that they would be faithful ambassadors of Christ while they complete their military service.

- Please pray for our expecting parents, Mike and Jennifer Hasegawa and now Jeff and Jocelyn Lee!!

- Please pray for Kent and Romi Hong as they are currently in the process of adopting a child and are anticipating the arrival of a boy! Please pray for God’s wisdom and help through this process and for wisdom to be godly parents.

- Pray for our engaged couples: Matt Zhang and Samantha SooHoo (5/28/2011), Joshua Wong and Liz Lee (7/16/2011), John Yang and Melody Yu (7/23/2011), Ted Su and Becky Areekul (7/30/2011), Brian Chang and Katrina Lin (5/12/2012), Stephen Rodgers and Hanka Tomášková, Roger Alcaraz and Grace Wu, and Abram and Lillian!

- Pray for our dating and engaged couples that they might preserve their purity and have relationships that glorify God.

- Pray for Lighthouse Bible Church San Jose (Pastor John and Angela Kim, and Pastor J. R. and Kathy Cuevas) as they work to shine the light in Northern California.

- Pray for the church in Ostrava, Czech Republic (Meinolf and Martina Mellwig) that they would persevere in spreading the good news and equipping the saints.

- Pray for Iglesia Biblica Misionera in Tucuman, Argentina (Pastor Jorge and Norma Ahualle), as well as Church Planting Ministries (Eduardo and Gloria Buldain) as they work to reach the unsaved in Argentina.

- Pray for our leaders that they would gain wisdom to lead and humbly serve God through their responsibilities at the church. Pray that our pastor would continually faithfully preach the Word of God.

- Please pray for Roger Alcaraz and Ryan Short as they commute each week up to The Master’s Seminary for school in preparation for full-time ministry.

- Pray for the college ministry as the students continue their studies. Pray that they would be diligent to maintain spiritual disciplines and growth, and that they would represent Christ on-campus.

- Pray for the single adults ministry that they would continue to shine the light of Christ in the workplace and make the most of every opportunity to represent Christ.

- Pray for the LBC GraceLife family ministry. Pray that God would build strong spiritual marriages and use our parents to raise up the next generation in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

- Pray for the youth and children. Pray that their lives would be guided by the principles of God’s Word and that they would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

End Times Bible Study. The final End Times Bible Study will be tonight, from 6:00-8:00pm, at the church. Come find out what the Bible says about eschatology through this helpful series. Good Friday Service. On Friday, April 22, we will not be meeting in our regular Friday night Bible studies. Instead, we will have a joint service at the church to observe Good Friday. Service will begin at 6:30pm. We will be taking communion that evening so please come having prepared your hearts.

Resurrection Sunday. On Sunday, April 24, we will be celebrating Resurrection Sunday with a special breakfast fellowship at 7:30am. Service will begin at 9:00am as usual. This is a great opportunity to invite family and friends to church to hear the message of the gospel.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES:

Children’s Sunday School. In order to provide our children an opportunity to hear God’s Word in a way that is particularly geared towards them, the kids will be dismissed to Sunday School classes after the singing time during this morning’s worship service. Also, the children’s ministries second hour classes resume today during the Sunday School hour. As always, nursery care is provided for your benefit in Room 103.

Lighthouse Kids’ Club. Kids’ Club continues this Wednesday evening, at 6:30pm, at the church. This year’s theme is “Almighty Creator,” and we are taking time to examine the attributes of God. All kids in preschool through 5th grade are welcome to participate. Contact Josh Liu for more information (liu.joshuac@gmail.com).

Argentina Missions Trip. This year’s Argentina Missions trip is tentatively scheduled for July 6-21. Czech Missions Trip. Applications are now available for this summer’s Czech Republic missions trip (due April 17). The dates for the trip are June 26 to July 16 (part of the time will be spent in San Jose). We will be teaming up once again with Meinolf Mellwig and the church in Ostrava to conduct a weeklong English camp. For those who are interested in applying for the Czech trip, applications are due today! Please contact Pastor John Kim at LBC San Jose for more information (pastorjohnkimlbc@gmail.com).
