LBC Nursery Ministry, aka Fireflies, serves the youngest members of our church, ages 0-3 yrs. We are divided into 2 areas: Nursery 1 (from birth to about 16 months old), and Nursery 2 (from about 16 months old to 3 years old). We not only have play time, snack time, and potty time, but we also have Bible lesson time for Nursery 2 children where they learn different attributes of God. For instance, during the month one month, they learn about God’s sovereignty through the story of Jesus calming the wind and the sea and how He is the boss of everything (Matt. 8:23-27). They are taught the same lesson for the whole month along with a memory verse. For example, one memory verse is Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Our staff of about 30 ladies of all ages (college & up) absolutely loves the children that the parents entrust to us while they worship. Each staff member serves about once every 3 weeks. In addition to Sunday mornings, we also serve on occasions such as Christmas Concert, LBC Annual Banquet, and other events as needs arise. We are blessed to be part of this ministry not only because we participate in the lives of these children, who grow up ever so quickly, but also because we are involved in the lives of fellow sisters who serve here. We encourage the ladies to consider the times of serving as an act of worship. We try to hold each other accountable in our spiritual walk and be intentional even in our conversations while we serve. Because we have a number of moms serving as staff members, younger ladies are finding this ministry to be such a valuable opportunity to be learning from the older women in dealing with children (as in Titus 2).

The director of Fireflies is Carol Lim along with Lillian To (scheduling coordinator) and Brenda Hom (curriculum coordinator).

Patrick Cho Hello, my name is Patrick Cho and I serve as the senior pastor at Lighthouse Bible Church. My wife Christine and I were married in October 2005, and we have one child, Eden Cassie, who was born in August 2008. I grew up in a Christian home and have lived in San Diego almost my entire life. Although I accumulated a lot of knowledge about the Bible and a basic understanding of the facts of the gospel as a child, it was not until my early years of college that God graciously saved me. He helped me to realize that I was living purely for myself and had not surrendered my life to Christ’s lordship. I praise God for my salvation and now strive to live in the strength He provides all for His glory. Some of my favorite hobbies include singing, playing guitar, cooking, and reading.

In 1999, I received a B.A. at the University of California in San Diego, where I majored in European History and minored in Philosophy. I also received an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary in 2004. My high school friends used to say that I would be the most likely to become a pastor. I thought about it as far back as high school, but I decided to actually prayerfully pursue it while I was in college. During my third year at UCSD, I decided that there was nothing else that I desired to do. Although other career opportunities were presented to me, I felt the Lord’s call into ministry. Others in the church and in my family affirmed that they saw how God had gifted me to serve in this way, so after much prayer and consultation with various pastors, I submitted my application for seminary in the summer of 2000. By God’s grace and sovereignty, I served on staff at LBC throughout my seminary training.

I love Lighthouse! The people of LBC have always been very special to me. It is not common to find a congregation of believers so hungry for God’s Word and so sacrificial in their ministerial service. Those who visit the church often comment on how warm and friendly the people are, and others are encouraged by the family atmosphere that characterizes the fellowship. The weekly teaching from the Word is also something that stands out about LBC because it is a commitment to God’s truth that drives our overall ministry. The church is aware of our desire to uphold a high view of God and a high view of God’s Word, and the leadership is aware that the equipping of the saints will only be accomplished by the dedicated teaching of the Bible. I am thankful that Lighthouse is a church that can be characterized by its uncompromising commitment to the Word of God and its genuinely loving fellowship.

Michael Chon I am married to my lovely wife Caroline and have three children, Tyrone, Isaiah, and Amber, as well as a dog named Ranger. I attended UCSD for my undergraduate studies, majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. I then attended USC for my graduate studies in physical therapy, receiving my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in the spring of 2002. I am currently working full-time in San Diego as a physical therapist.

I am currently overseeing the Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry at our church. It has been a privilege to be able to serve at this church and to see God’s work through the lives of the people here.

Peter Lim Hello! My name is Peter Lim and it’s my privilege to serve our congregation as an elder. I graduated from UCLA with a Computer Science and Engineering degree. My day job as an engineer for Motorola is fine and all but my real work is with my family at home and at the church. My wife Jinny and I have 3 daughters who keep us busy with challenges as well as entertainment. My hobbies include wood working and fishing. Some of my heroes include a carpenter and some fishermen.

Pastor John Kim (now senior pastor of LBC San Jose) and I were roommates at UCLA in the 80s where we stayed up many nights discussing what a church ought to be like. LBC is the culmination of those dreams, not that we are perfect. We know that God is continuing to bless our efforts because we see people coming to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and people growing in their faith. It is my desire and passion in life is to train up young men who will be able to teach others also.

The church is called to worship God with all their heart (Matthew 22:37), and in spirit and in truth (John 4:21-24). Before God, the worship service should reflect His character and nature because He is a God of peace and order and not of strife and confusion (I Corinthians 14:33). The worship service must exalt and glorify God.

This ministry desires to worship God and serve others by helping others worship God without any distractions and keeping order during the worship service. The duties of the ushers are: collecting offering, collecting white slips, door monitoring, and passing of the communion plates.

If you are a member of LBC and have a servant’s heart to minister on this team, please contact Min Chol Kim.

This is a group of about 25 faithful servants who work in rotations on the weekends to maintain the church facilities. Our weekly tasks include vacuuming the carpet throughout the church, cleaning the restrooms, taking out the trash, and wiping down all surfaces. Each category comes with its respective list of tasks that need to be completed, and depending on the condition of each facility, can be simple or…challenging.  The team works diligently to make sure that the church is tidy and presentable for the next time it will be used. Every night the leader of the group makes sure that the team is focused on serving God with a pure heart, wishing to glorify Him even through scrubbing toilets and wiping down sinks. Even though it’s a very simple job and may not get a lot of face time, the cleaning ministry is a vital part of the church.

The cleaning ministry is in need of anyone who is willing to sacrifice their nights to get together and serve God. If you’re interested in joining, please contact Andy Shin.

The Refreshments Ministry provides Sunday morning delights, meals for events such as outdoor services, Fun in the Sun (FITS) Day, anniversary services, and holiday occasions.  How much food to prepare is always a challenge as we never really know how many people will show up to various Church functions. Portioning and menu planning can also be difficult as men will often consume more food then the ladies. Please pray that our team will serve others with a humble heart that seeks to glorify God.  We can always use faithful servants that enjoy serving others through food. If you are a member who wants to serve with the refreshments minsitry, please contact Suzie Park at suzie4jc@yahoo.com.

While being on the sound team might seem like a glamorous kind of job, it’s just the opposite. Think about it. When a concert or worship service is sounding great, everyone’s attention is to the front. But if the sound is too soft, too loud, or feedback starts squelching a bad tune, everyone’s attention turns to the back where the sound person sits, trying to ignore all the cold stares they are getting. Because of this, the sound team’s job is an important one. If their job is done properly, they are practically invisible to the people because everyone is focused on what’s happening in the front. If their job is done poorly, the attention is taken away from the front because everyone is too busy wondering what’s going on with the sound person. That is why we desire to be a team that makes sound reinforcement transparent during the worship service. No matter how well praise is going or how good a sermon is, its effectiveness will diminish if the sound system isn’t set up or run correctly.

If you are a member and serving on the sound team sounds like a good opportunity for you, please talk to any of the sound team members. There is no experience necessary because on the job training will be available.

We also want to be a resource to other church sound teams. If you have any questions regarding our setup, equipment recommendations, or how we run sound (mic placement, the use of effects, aux sends and returns, maximizing headroom on your mixer, etc.) please speak with Eugene Park.

The power point ministry takes care of all the projection needs at LBC.  This is primarily song lyrics during the singing time on Sundays and sermons notes.  They also help with special events.  This is a great way to serve the church if you don’t like being “in the spotlight”. If you’re a member and are interested in serving in this ministry,  to contact me Johnny Kim.
